Kula meeting to cover water, deer, bike tours - Maui News

The Maui News

The Kula Community Association will discuss Upcountry water issues, axis deer, downhill bicycle tours and the county budget during a meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Meeting topics will include:

• Upcountry water, with Maui County Department of Water Supply Director Jeff Perason describing the current water situation as well as how to meet the growing demand for water in the future.

• Axis deer, with Maui County Council Member Yuki Lei Sugimura and Maui County Farm Bureau Board President Kyle Caires discussing plans to reduce the problem.

• Downhill bicycle tours, which have been a nuisance and safety concern for Upcountry residents for several decades. The association has put together a draft county ordinance and is seeking feedback from residents. To view the ordinance, visit kulamaui.com/uploads/5/6/3/9/5639079/bikes-kca_ver_10-14-2021.pdf.

• County budget. Residents can submit Upcountry items that they think should go into the 2022-23 budget by emailing dickmayer@earthlink.net and/or yukilei.sugimura@mauicounty.us by Nov. 1. The board will prepare a recommended priority list to submit to the mayor and the council.

New Maui Fire Department Chief Bradford Ventura will also appear at the meeting to outline his general plans.

Moderated by association board member Dick Mayer and by Sugimura, the meeting will air on Akaku channel 54 as well as on facebook.com/AkakuMauiCommunity

Media. Participants can also register for the meeting via Zoom at us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_W86B-fPSRnC_v3VFWMJ15g.
